The Secret To Guarding Your Heart

Navigating the dating scene is difficult. What I see and experience, all too often, is a lack of boldness and the lack of grace. It’s so easy to walk into any situation in life without confidence. One rooted in who God says you are and who He made you to be.
How Do You Handle Rejection?
I know what it looks like to shy away from putting all your eggs in one basket. When the reality is, that avoiding becoming infatuated with one person is impossible—When only looking at one example.
Now, I am not saying, “you should” be entertaining talking to more than one individual. However, it is important to discern, connect and fellowship with others. So, that we can encourage and uplift one another. This is why the art of making friends is more significant than just dating.
Here’s What’s Up!
You DON’T know them, and they DON’T know you. No one is getting married tomorrow! Take a deep breath (no seriously, try it!). It’s okay to talk to multiple people you are interested in with maturity. Emphasis on maturity! Ask yourself the question, “Do I know enough about them?”.
You’ve heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? The same goes for any relationship. A friendship is the literal stage one, an exciting starting line before the race.
Make a list! Of 5 core values you are looking for in a person. From their set your boundaries, the things you aren’t willing to negotiate on with someone.
Guard your heart! Proverbs 4:23. Remember and fully understanding that in each step you take throughout your day, or in interactions with friends, colleagues, or family, God is within you and with you. He will see you through every difficult situation. If a guy or girl rejects you? Trust God knowing He has saved you from heartache ahead of time, you cannot see ahead.
Emotions And Expectations To Look Out For
- Check your heart, have you began to invest into any one person more than needed at this state in your conversation with them. This is very different from reciprocal communication and connection. Seek God and wise council from a trusted mentor, friend, or family member.
- Don’t judge a book by its cover. Examine someone for who they are first, without superficial hang-ups or projections from other people’s preferences that have rubbed off on you. Treat every person the way you expect to be treated.
- Date with intention and flow in the love of Christ. The question of marriage isn’t relevant until it needs to be or is time to be.
Don’t panic (take a deep breath), if you’ve encountered one or all of these? You are not alone, and it isn’t too late to course-correct!
Pray this prayer:
Father, I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that my access to you is available to me and not linked to people’s perceptions of me or my own personal qualifications, I come to you today knowing that I enter in based on Jesus perfect qualifications.
Please help me guard my heart against voices and spoken words that would move me back into thinking that I am not good enough to access your face and your hand of blessing in any way!
